The pattern is not printed on and it is not a film laid over the top. Because the finish depends on manipulation time, the surface area one crew can work in a single pour matters as much as the product. Ask how the floor will be divided so that wet edges are not left to cure against a cold joint.
A metallic floor shows every float mark and every bond failure. If the slab is moist, the vapor pushes the film up from below and blisters open through the pattern, and the repair is never invisible - a patched swirl reads as a patched swirl.

Above either moisture limit, a dedicated barrier such as EC-15 goes in under the base coat. Polished concrete is the cheaper alternative where the look does not have to be resinous, but it is a different product with a different maintenance profile, and it does not add a wear layer.
High-desert light is the reason the clear coat matters more here than in a humid climate. A standard epoxy topcoat is UV-sensitive and drifts amber under sunlight, and on a metallic floor that shift lands on a surface whose entire value is its colour. A polyaspartic clear coat such as EC-102 is UV-stable and stays clear, which is why it is the layer specified over a decorative pigment.
The temperature side is just as real. Mean highs run from near 45 F in January to near 90 F in July, with a record high of 108 F on 16 July 2023 and a record low of -16 F on 7 Feb 1989 recorded at Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Where the floor is installed in a west-facing garage or a showroom with glazing, ask for the topcoat by name and by mil thickness. Fifteen mils of UV-stable clear over the base is a wear layer; a sealer measured in single mils is not, and it will not survive a sun-loaded space for long.
Metallic floors belong in showrooms, gyms, training spaces, basements and feature rooms where the floor is part of the design and light moves across it. They are a poor fit where the room has to hide a working floor's history: a flowing pattern makes dust, scuffs and dropped-tool marks more visible, not less.

Slip resistance is a separate decision. Aggregate broadcast into the topcoat - a fine graded quartz, or CA-30 Small Safe Grip and CA-31 Large Safe Grip - makes friction part of the film. On a gym floor or a wet bay it belongs in the specification, and it changes how the finish reads under light, so ask to see a sample with the aggregate in it rather than a clear sample board.

The permit depends on the address, not the city name on the mail. The City of Reno Building and Safety division covers incorporated city limits; parts of the valley with Reno or Sparks mailing addresses are in unincorporated Washoe County and are permitted there instead.
